Henry Lovell was born on Friday, 16th March 1832, in Berkshire. Reading.

[55, 57, 70, 113, 114]

He was the son of Joseph Layton Lovell and Sarah Martha Topping.

Henry was baptised in St Mary Magdalene Church, Bermondsey, Southwark, London (Baptised on the same day as brother William), on 28th June 1837. [115]

He died in 26 Paxton Road, Birmingham, Warwickshire, on 20th December 1879, at the age of 47. [70]

There is no record that I can find of Henry and Emma's marriage, nor records of their children's baptisms that help - it appears that none of their children were baptised. Therefore, I have had to rely on Henry's parents records and Henry, Emma and their children's details from government birth, death and census records. Bearing in mind that government marriage registration only became compulsory in 1874. However, one would expect church records to exist because of Lord Hardwick's Marriage Act of 1753 basically banning Common Law Marriage as it was at that time - perhaps they were not officially married and this could be the reason that their children were not baptised. If they were married, but were Quakers or belonged to certain Baptist Churches, or some other types of non-conformists these religions do not believe in baptism, nor does the Salvation Army although the Salvation Army was not founded until 1865.
