Loom Street, George Leigh Street and Cotton Street all adjoin each other and were next to Murray's Cotton Mill which was built in 1798. Ancoats was considered the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. After the opening of the Rochdale Canal in 1804 over 16 cotton mills were operating in the Ancoats area of Manchester. This was a boom time and great draw for workers, especially experienced cotton weavers from other areas. Also allied to this boom there was the need for builders, foundry workers and all the support businesses and workers to support the mills and their employees.
Margaret (Peggy) died in March 1850 in Ancoats. Death certificate says 'Died of Old Age'.
Margaret (Peggy) was buried in Ardwick Cemetery, Lancashire.
